Plans are underway for the General Convention Children’s Program.
Organizers met April 7-9 at the Cathedral Center of Los Angeles. The Rev. Michael Cooper, Priest-in-Charge hosted the meeting. Ruth-Ann Collins, Staff Officer for Children's Ministries at the National Church office, MerLynne Byrne, former organizer 2003 and 2006 General Conventions, Susan Bek, seminarian and organizer of the Children's Program, and
Provincial Coordinator, Patricia Erskine met and talked about vision and organization of The Children's Program at the 2009 General Convention in Anaheim. Lynn Headley, UTO Network Chair and Volunteer Coordinator for General Convention and Dina Ferguson, seminarian and liaison to General Convention planning office joined in the conversation via conference calls.
The team worked on the goals, mission, program planning, finances, networking, and General Convention logistics. Due to the strict rules and regulations governing child care, the committee is working hard to insure that all people involved in the Children's Program have background checks and proper training.
Writer-in-residence, Malcolm Boyd was on hand for a short discussion about...life! It was a delight to meet him and hear his stories. Information about the program and General Convention will be made available during the summer. Information about General Convention can be found on www.episcopalchurch.org.
