If you want to join us for this meeting we heartily recommend that you Download Province VIII Altar Guild Registration Form as soon as possible because space will be held in order reservations are received. Note that full weekend registration includes room and board from Friday evening through Sunday lunch. We have had some questions about Mercy Center

  rooms. They are simple singles with a washbasin. All bathroom facilities are nearby on the same floor. There is ample parking for any who drive, and Mercy Center is also convenient to San Francisco International Airport. The Super Shuttle or a taxi will get you to the door in 10-15 minutes.

DO YOU SEW? At the Friday evening Eucharist we will be accepting, and Bishop Marc will be blessing, little dresses and shorts that will be delivered to orphanages in Haiti through the Sirona Cares Foundation (http://www.sironacares.org/). Pictures show girls in dresses and boys in shorts collected and blessed at our Diocese of California spring 2011 Altar Guild Meeting. Most of these children have never had a new piece of clothing in their lives and these are very special to them. Any simple pattern for shorts will work as will any simple dress pattern. Video Tour of Holy Trinity Cathedral in Port Au Prince, Haiti

[February 14, 2011] A significant video offering a first-hand tour of the devastated Holy Trinity Cathedral in Port Au Prince, Haiti, is available on the Episcopal Church website here: http://www.episcopalchurch.org/haitiappeal/

 Presenting the video tour is the Rev. Joseph Constant, Episcopal Church Special Coordinator for Haiti, who gives a step-by-step look at the destruction and the sad remains of the Cathedral. On the recently taped video, Haitian-born Constant adds personal insights into the situation and addresses why the rebuilding of the Holy Trinity Cathedral complex is so critical for the people of Haiti.

"Nothing tells a story like moving images,” noted Mike Collins, director of digital media.  “To see what remains of the Cathedral is heartbreaking.  The only way people are going to understand how dire the situation is in Haiti actually you need to see it."

 The three –minute video, with panoramic views of the remaining rubble, is part of the appeal to help rebuild the once beautiful and now destroyed Holy Trinity Cathedral in downtown Port-Au-Prince. The Rebuild Our Church in Haiti campaign is a grassroots, churchwide appeal to begin to rebuild Holy Trinity Cathedral, which is the spiritual and cultural heart of the Episcopal Diocese of Haiti.  Congregations interested in participating in the appeal will find more information at www.episcopalchurch.org/haitiappeal

The Diocese of Haiti is the largest in the Episcopal Church.  The January 2010 earthquake leveled the churches and diocesan facilities, including Holy Trinity Cathedral and facilities on the cathedral site: Holy Trinity Music School, Holy Trinity Professional School, and the primary and secondary schools.

Haiti support pledged by Episcopal Church’s Province VIII Bishops

A commitment to assist in funding the Episcopal Church’s new “Rebuild Our Church in Haiti” initiative was adopted January 13 by Province VIII Bishops, who pledged their own personal financial support together with ongoing relief efforts and diocesan partnerships following the earthquake one year ago. 

The Bishops expressed their support in a joint statement:

January 3, 2011, New York, NY – When the earthquake hit Haiti in January 2010, nearly all the church buildings in the Diocese of Haiti were effectively leveled, including Holy Trinity Cathedral in Port-au-Prince.

 The Diocese of Haiti is the largest Diocese in The Episcopal Church, and in addition to the spiritual and pastoral care people expect from the Church, the Diocese of Haiti also provides many of the services generally provided by the government, including healthcare, education, and cultural resources.
