Provincial Leadership Conference, Mercy Center, September 14-16

The 2009 annual Provincial Leadership Conference (PLC) will begin at Noon on Monday, September 14th and end at Noon on Wednesday, September 16th at Mercy Center in Burlingame, California.  The Executive Committee will begin its meeting at 3 pm on Sunday, September 13th and end at 2 pm on Wednesday, September 16th.

The theme for PLC will be "Ubuntu", a concept interpreted by South African Archbishop Emeritus Desmond

The Diocese of Minnesota announces three candidates for bishop and one of them is our own Youth Network Leader,  The Rev. Brian Prior!!

The Diocese of LA  announced a slate of six candidates for two suffragan bishop elections to be held in December and one of them is our own Hispanic Network Leader, The Rev. Silvestre Romero, Jr.

[Episcopal News Service] The Diocese of Minnesota on August 1 announced three candidates for the position of the ninth diocesan bishop: the Rev. Mariann Budde, the Rev. Bonnie Perry and the Rev. Brian Prior.

Perry is rector of All Saints' Church in Chicago, Budde is rector of St. John the Baptist Church in Minneapolis, and Prior is rector of Church

Report on Immigration Summit 2009

The Rev. Canon Carmen Guerrero reports that thirty participants from several Dioceses in Province VIII gathered at The Franciscan Renewal Center on April 20-23, 2009 to meet around the issue of Immigration.  The theme was Legislation, Organization, & Implementation.

Historic Day for Hispanic Ministry in Nevada

  The one-year-old Hispanic ministry of All Saints’ parish, Las Vegas, celebrated the Reception of Hispanic Missioner, Bernardo Iniesta, as a Priest in the Episcopal Church on December 7, 2008.  Bishop Dan T. Edwards, 10th Bishop of the Diocese of Nevada received Fr. Bernardo as spiritual and sacramental leader of the first, and currently the only, Spanish language ministry in the Episcopal Diocese of Nevada.   The service booklet for the reception service was bi-lingual, lessons were read in Spanish and English, children and young people from Sunday morning church school and the Spanish language service, and a newly formed chimes choir of Hispanic youth and adults provided special music, as well as special music by our organist, The Rev. Bede Parry and All Saints’ Choir, and hymns sung in both languages.

Cluster II of Province VIII plans 2008 Convocation
Gathering at the Franciscan Center in Scottsdale, AZ, Dec. 9-11, were the network leaders of Cluster II of our Province to plan a provincial convocation for July 31-August 3, 2008. The site will be the Franciscan Center and the conference will be preceded by the annual Commission on Ministry Convocation of the Province, July 29-31. Carmen Guerrero (Peace and Justice), Sylvester Romero (Latino), Mimi Wu (Asian), Carolyn Gaines (Afro-Anglican), and Debbie Royals (Indigenous), along with Cluster Convenor Butch Gamarra and Jack Eastwood, Provincial President, planned the four-day event entitled “Clothe Your Ministers with Righteousness.”

Cultural Diversity in the Ordination Process

As a follow up to our conversation in Burlingame last month about the Cultural Diversity in the Ordination Process (CDOP) material  Commission on Ministry network chair, The Rev. Jenny Vervyck and The Rev. Carmen Guerrero (pictured), have organized a strategy planning meeting for
