Called To Serve! Meet the class of 2011!

In these pages Download Called_to_Serve_2011you will be introduced to many of the members of the Class of 2011 from Church Divinity School of the Pacific.  These snapshots of the students contain a picture, contact information, a personal narrative statement and an abbreviated resume.  

As you will discover these men and women possess a variety of gifts and experiences that make them well qualified for ministry in the 21st century.   They are already strong leaders and are eager to continue their journeys wherever the Holy Spirit will lead them.  Some have been ordained to the diaconate and anticipate ordination to the priesthood in the spring or summer, others will be ordained deacons in the coming months, while others are either still in an ordination process or seek lay ministry opportunities.

CDSP and her faculty and staff have not been alone in preparing these individuals for ministry.  Parishes

The President of the House of Deputies speaks about "Courageous Change: What it takes, and how it happens"

On May 5, at the 2011 Kellogg Lectures, Bonnie told audiences at Episcopal Divinity School that "the church is stuck in an organizational model" with "a bureaucracy with rules, roles, and relationships that we accept as our social reality."

In her series, titled "Courageous Change: What it takes, and how it happens," she said "The church needs to be a movement. Right now we are an organization. We have a critical mass of 2 million ministers."

National Episcopal Aids Coalition new website offers support, guidance, and networking for those affected byHIV/Aids

[Episcopal News Service] Bruce Garner says his spiritual life was profoundly changed during an AIDS healing service in 1986 at Grace Cathedral in San Francisco.

"I felt the presence of God so strongly it was like I could reach out and physically touch the Holy Spirit," the Atlanta resident recalled. "As I watched people go up to the altar rail to be anointed, every one of them walked as though they had the weight of the cathedral on their shoulders."

Returning to their seats afterward, "their faces had lighted up. They were standing straight, and you could tell that they had been healed. They had not been cured, they had been healed, and that was a very important point in my life."

The service occurred during an Episcopal Church-sponsored conference, the first national AIDS-related faith gathering ever, Garner said. About 300 people involved in HIV/AIDS ministry attended.

All of us in campus ministry see the growing reality of the post-Christian world.  Old words, old patterns and old assumptions no longer hold.  We can react with fear, we can embrace denial or we can stand on a creative threshold offering our ancient faith with new hope.  There is a current moving away from the established norms but as campus ministers we offer another current, pregnant with the possible.

This year the Episcopal university chaplains’ conference offers a time to reflect with colleagues and our guest speakers on what it means to be the church in a post-church world.

New Chaplains’ Orientation:
Friday, June 24th - First session: 1:00 pm-6:00 pm

Dinner on June 24th, and breakfast on June 25th will be provided, as well as overnight accommodation on June 24th.

The new chaplains’ conference is open to any Episcopal or jointly-appointed ELCA chaplain who has not previously attended.

Chaplain’s Conference:
The conference begins with registration on Saturday, June, 25th at 2:00 pm. The conference concludes after breakfast on Tuesday, June 28th.

The chaplains’ conference is open to all Episcopal, jointly-appointed ELCA chaplains and campus ministry board members.

National Episcopal HIstorians and Archivists Conference June 14-17, Portland, Oregon

2011 NEHA Conference Eden-End of the Oregon Trail

The Diocese of Oregon is hosting the 2011 National Episcopal Historians and Archivists (NEHA) Conference. It will be held Tuesday, June 14th through Friday, June 17th, 2011 in Portland, Oregon.

The conference hotel is the University Place Hotel and Conference Center located at 310 SW Lincoln Street, Portland, OR 97301. Visit their website here <http://uplace.pdx.edu> . You must make your own hotel arrangements which are separate from conference registration. Call either (503) 221-0140 or (866) 845-4647 to make your reservation and ask for the "2011 National Episcopal Historians and Archivist Conference. Deadline for the hotel is April 12th. Partnering for Prevention: A Conference on Abuse in our Communion and our Communities

 

The Anglican Safe Church Consultation will hold its second conference for clergy, church leaders, pastoral counselors and others concerned with power, abuse and gender issues in the church from June 23 to 26 in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada.  The Nathan Network, which is the safe church affiliate of The Episcopal Church, is helping organize the conference.  A conference brochure is available online at safechurch.anglicancommunion.org/.  More information on the conference can be obtained from Nathan Network Vice-president Lawrence R. Interested in learning fundamental skills for building an inclusive community?

Dear Friends,

 

Are you interested in receiving training in the Kaleidoscope Institute's fundamental skills for building inclusive community? The Kaleidoscope Institute is considering offering Course One of the Summer Institute (Fundamental Skills for Building Inclusive Community; including Modules I-VII of the Kaleidoscope Curriculum) in LA, on July 25-27 before the Media and Faith workshop.We need to have at least 12 participants to offer the course. Please let us know (by e-mail response) if you are interested, so we can gauge feasibility.

 

 If you are interested you can get the benefit of both by attending the full week. We will be able to determine registration costs once we have a sense of the interest level.
