Provincial Leadership Conference, Mercy Center, September 14-16

The 2009 annual Provincial Leadership Conference (PLC) will begin at Noon on Monday, September 14th and end at Noon on Wednesday, September 16th at Mercy Center in Burlingame, California.  The Executive Committee will begin its meeting at 3 pm on Sunday, September 13th and end at 2 pm on Wednesday, September 16th.

The theme for PLC will be "Ubuntu", a concept interpreted by South African Archbishop Emeritus Desmond

Travel/Business Expense Reimbursements Deadline

                                                                                                                                                            The Rev. Brian Nordwick is beginning the transition of financial record keeping/check writing from his  office in the Diocese of  El Camino Real to Lanny Collins, former CFO of the Diocese of Oregon.  Brian will be working on getting the books closed at year end for a clean transfer on January 1st. To that end, and since their office is closed from December 24^th through the rest of the year,  all check requests for processing for 2008 payment and budget must be submitted by December 15^th.  This will allow  time to process and mail the checks before the Christmas break.   This request also goes to all of you for any travel/business expense reimbursements.   From December 16^th onward, please  forward all check requests/invoices and questions to Lanny Collins.  Lanny’s contact information is: lannyc@verizon.net; Lanny Collins, 14158 S.W. The Greatest Story Ever Told Stewardship, Evangelism and Congregational Development Conference Today

The Province VIII Conference on Stewardship, Evangelism, and Congregational Development is happening now in Portland at the Monarch Conference Center. The conference began with a wonderful and moving gathering created by the native American Ministry Team.  Led by The Rev. Debbie Royals, our own Ministry Network Indigenous People's Leader, we heard from The Rev. Rachel Taber-Hamilton, on the powerful and creative role of story in culture. Fran McKendree provided music alongside Becky Clark, co-leader of the Province VIII Indigenous People's Ministry.  Our Celebrant, The Rt. Rev. Sandy Hampton was introduced as being "on loan" to the Diocese of Oregon from the Diocese of Olympia. The Rev. Eric Law, Director of the kaleidoscope Institute for Competent Leadership in a Diverse and Changing World preached. The Rev. Fred Vergara, Program Officer for Asian American Ministries presented the  story of Christianity entitled From Aeropagus to Cyberspace: Telling our Christian Story.

Friday and Saturday we will hear from a host of presenters from around Province VIII including Bishop Mark McDonald, Indigenous Bishop, Anglican Church of Canada speaking on "Creating Tomorrow's Story; the Rev. Eric Law, will help us examine our own cultural makeup and power analysis; the Rev. Rebecca McLain of the Godly Play Foundation;  Concurrent programs are offered for youth and children so that this conference welcomes families too.

Province VIII 2008 Grant Application

As stated at the October Provincial Leadership Conference, we are in a unique position to offer funding for special projects in 2008. Province VIII ministry network leaders may make a grant request for projects unrelated to general network operating costs. Questions and forms should be submitted to Provincial Coordinator Patricia Erskine.

2008 Budget Approved

The Executive Committee wishes to express its gratitude to our treasurer The Rev. Brian Nordwick for his exemplary handling, record keeping and presentation of the budget. Ms. Joanne McClain assists Brian with this task and we are grateful for her friendly and stellar service to the province. Without their help we would not be able to ensure Province VIII's mission to sustain and grow our network ministries and "to do together with God what we cannot do alone."
